The scarlet Countess

Within the underbelly of Eorzean society, Lavasha cen Apicius is known by another name—The Scarlet Countess, a title spoken only in whispers and never in daylight. While The Lavender Collective presents itself as a benevolent haven for displaced women and femmes, the Scarlet Countess commands its hidden blade: The Violet Hand, one of the most precise and feared espionage and assassination networks in the realm. From behind velvet curtains and perfumed correspondence, Lavasha brokers secrets, orchestrates betrayals, and decides which truths are sold, buried, or paid for in blood. Under her direction, the Violet Hand has dismantled slave trades, liberated captives, stolen weapons and forbidden magicks from vaults stretching from the Holy See to the sealed archives of Sharlayan, and executed contracts with such elegance that many never realize a hand was involved at all. She does not swing the blade herself—she chooses where it falls—and in doing so, the Scarlet Countess has reshaped the shadows of Eorzea with ruthless intelligence and immaculate control.

Pureblood    To some, the sight of a Viera bearing an Eye is too unsettling to endure—a union of beast and empire that defies comfort. Lavasha’s cybernetic form has become a symbol the underbelly of Eorzea both recognizes and fears, evoking savagery and fascism in equal, haunting measure.

Hingashi      Both sanctuary and seat of power, Kugane serves as the heart of The Lavender Collective. Few of status or influence in the city remain unaware of the agency’s prestige—or the quiet reach of its influence.

Lavasha cen Apicius

background

Lavasha cen Apicius was born into privilege at the dawn of the Garlean Empire’s consolidation, the only daughter of Raphael and Edda cen Apicius. For nearly two generations, the Apicius family had served the Garlemald Republic as respected nutritionists, their expertise trusted by political leaders and local citizens alike. Following unification, their reputation elevated them to Kef to Solus zos Galvus himself, and later to the Empire’s highest-ranking commanders and legislators. Lavasha was raised amid comfort and expectation, groomed to inherit a legacy defined by refinement, service, and loyalty to the Empire. Her mother, Edda, ensured Lavasha mastered the social graces expected of a woman of standing—etiquette, poise, and the art of feminine presentation. Music and dance became her sanctioned outlets: piano, flute, and harp all bent easily to her touch, while movement taught her how presence alone could command a room. From her father, Raphael, she learned something sharper—how to read people, build rapport, and speak with elegance that concealed intent. Together, these lessons forged a woman capable of extracting truths without force, wielding allure, patience, and deception as profitably as any blade.Among the most formative influences of her youth was Aulus mal Asina. Forced to sit beside the disagreeable prodigy in class, Lavasha instead found a kindred spirit. His status as a halfblood never mattered to her, and she defended him openly when others scorned him. Fascinated by his relentless intellect, she absorbed his monologues on the aetherial sea and magitek theory, nurturing a fascination with aether manipulation that would one day reshape her fate. As they matured, Lavasha often visited Aulus’s laboratory, bringing confections of her own making to sustain him through sleepless nights—companions bound by curiosity, trust, and shared ambition.By adulthood, war had tightened its grip on every echelon of Garlean society. The Apicius family strained beneath the burden of supplying all fourteen Imperial Legions, and Lavasha watched pride curdle into exhaustion. When the Praetorium fell and Gaius van Baelsar was defeated, the Empire shifted once more—Zenos yae Galvus claiming Ala Mhigo and drawing Aulus into his service. Though funding was withdrawn, Aulus had achieved the impossible: a method of altering Garlean genomic limitations, granting the ability to wield magic through radical aetheric manipulation. On the eve of Aulus’s departure, Lavasha met him in secret—overcome by jealousy, fear, and longing. She could not bear the thought of spending her youth trapped in the slow rot of Imperial decline. Desperate for a life of discovery, she begged Aulus to use his experimental soul separation technology and grant her a new body—an irreversible escape. Reluctantly, he agreed. The procedure was rushed, brutal, and agonizing. When Lavasha awoke beside shattered glass and humming machinery, her Garlean body lay abandoned—her soul now housed within a tall, cybernetic Viera. She fled the research station unseen and vanished eastward. In Doma, Lavasha was reborn. She immersed herself in Yanxian culture, drifting between izakaya, tea houses, patisseries, and shokudo kitchens—using her culinary knowledge to earn trust and affection. Popular, enigmatic, and carefully concealed beneath long sleeves and artful hairstyles, her Garlean origins remained a secret. Freedom rekindled her interests, and under the tutelage of a shibari instructor, she began a discreet side business serving trusted clientele. What began as intimacy became leverage; vulnerability became currency. Among outcasts and criminals, her past was no longer a stain, but an advantage. From this crucible of reinvention, The Lavender Collective was born. Drawing women from across Eorzea—lost, dangerous, brilliant—Lavasha offered sanctuary and purpose in equal measure. Her question to them was the same one she had once answered herself: Is there any price too high for freedom?
